SUN RUN: My journey back to health and happiness

February 23, 2017

Something dawned on me as I recently heard my children speak of how active I was. Or, more accurately, once was.

My youngest, who is 13, began talking about how young and active her friend’s mothers are. They ski, they water ski, and on and on the list went.

My adult son laughed, and pointed out I do all those things and have even run a half marathon.

But, I had to confess I don’t do those things anymore – my boys know a completely different mom than my daughter.

Why, I began to wonder, am I no longer as physically active?

The very long list of excuses flowed freely from my lips. But I quickly realized I had to stop with the excuses.

I want to be the me that used to run and meet friends for workouts, instead of a coffee. Go to spin classes with my daughter. Laugh. Feel good. Be healthy.

To get back to that, I have set a goal for myself. I will be running in the Sun Run this year.

I have just joined a clinic in Cloverdale that will help me stay focused – and accountable – through my journey to make my health and happiness a life habit once again.

And, I am thrilled to be blogging my return to running.

I am fortunate to be part of an amazing group of women, who are the SheTalks committee. We know that women hear all too often that we must do better, look better, be better.

But we must remember, we are all perfect just the way we are.

Every woman has a journey and in the end, we need to be true to ourselves.
